UNIGIS Salzburg participated in the annual Esri User Conference in sunny San Diego. It was a fantastic week, meeting with our students, who live all over the world, and colleagues fromUNIGIS América Latina, Portugal, and California, in this vibrant GIS community. Highlights included the Education summit, the Monday Plenary, a presentation on Wildfires in Mexico by an alumnus fromUNIGIS América Latina, the Science summit, and the map gallery, where numerous students showcased their hard work. And, of course, we collected and noted down a bunch of new ideas we´d love to try out.
UNIGIS Salzburg turned 30 this year! To celebrate, we organised a special event with colleagues, PLUS staff, students, alumni, and friends of UNIGIS, in July 2024. One of the highlights included an award ceremony for Sina Bernhard, UNIGIS-MSc alumna, who placed 3rd for the UNIGIS Academic Excellence Prize for her Master thesis. She will also participate as speaker in the upcoming UNIGIS Talk. We had a great time during this evening as it perfectly resembled the teamwork-spirit we live every day at UNIGIS Salzburg. To the next 30 years!
During the summer term, we had the great pleasure to welcome three colleagues and a student from UNIGIS América Latina, in Salzburg. Leo Zurita-Arthos stayed with us for three months. He worked with us at the Department, updated his Optional Module "Environmental Monitoring" which starts in October, and enjoyed the time in Austria, exploring the Alpine nature and Austrian traditions. Carlos, Richard, and Anai were perfectly in time to celebrate the 30-year anniversary with us. We are grateful for this wonderful team!
