UNIGIS International
Business Meeting, Lisbon

As in previous years around this time, the program directors of the UNIGIS Partner Sites gathered for the annual UNIGIS International Business Meeting.

This year, on 24th - 25th October, our partners from the Information Management School at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, who successfully coordinate the UNIGIS program in Portuguese, hosted the event. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss GI market needs, their impact on curriculum development, and to share insights into distance learning didactics within the field of geospatial technology education.

We greatly appreciated the warm welcome from our Portuguese colleagues and are already looking forward to meeting again at next year’s UNIGIS International Business Meeting, to be held in October 2026 at the University of Girona, Spain. !Muito obrigado!!

UNIGIS Master Thesis

Christian Stefan has written an exciting Master Thesis on road safety, and his post is published on the UNIGIS Blog website.

It is about rethinking roadside safety: Run-off-road crashes are among the most dangerous accidents on Austrian roads, with injury risks up to seven times higher than in other crash types. These crashes usually happen when drivers lose control and collide with obstacles such as trees, signposts, or gantries.

This work presents a new approach to pinpoint hazardous roadside sections and strengthens road safety strategies.

Lively Intergeo Conference

At the beginning of October, Frankfurt was hosting the geospatial community at this year’s Intergeo. Over 18,500 visitors from more than 100 countries, 530 exhibitors, and more than 1,200 participants at the Intergeo Conference demonstrated that our industry is growing together and actively shaping the future.

UNIGIS participated with a booth at the Campus Geoinnovation area. Eva and Regina from the UNIGIS Team were busy answering questions from people all over the world about the UNIGIS study programs. Current students stopped by to say hello and talk about their study progress, report about learning experiences and ask questions. It was also a pleasure to meet many alumni and hear about the positive development of their careers.

We are looking forward to the next edition, which will take place in Munich from 15th-17th September 2026. We would be happy seeing you there!
